BERRY Show has come and gone and the Nowra Show is on this weekend. A great time was had by all last weekend. I must have handcuffed 1000 kids over the two days and I then had to explain to all the parents why I was un-cuffing them before I gave their dear, little, bread-snappers back. Come down on Friday or Saturday and say hello, you never know, I may give you a balloon.

On a more serious note, about 5.50pm on Wednesday, February 3 an 83-year-old man was in his home and noticed an unknown man in his bedroom. He tried to defend himself with a chair, the offender took the chair and struck the older man a number of times. After contacting the police the elderly victim went to the hospital for treatment. This incident should get you thinking in relation to the security of your home and your family. I have been going on about it for nearly two years now and I know there are still many people in the Shoalhaven Local Area Command (LAC) who don’t lock their cars, don’t secure their homes, and leave expensive property just lying about unsecured in the front yard. How many nasty situations like the one I have described have to occur before people take part in target hardening their homes?
It is as simple as locking your doors and windows before you go to bed or when you go out. Putting your property away in the shed or behind the house. If you have an elderly mother or father, go over to their house and make sure the house is secure. Talk to them about their personal safety and ensure they understand the importance of security. If you do not know anything about security I am sure there is plenty of information on the Google-net. You can always contact your local Crime Prevention Officer (me), and ask.
In relation to the horrible assault of the elderly male, anyone with any information about the matter, especially any information that can identify the offender - described as being about 170cm tall, of medium build, and was wearing black tracksuit-pants, a black hooded-jumper with white internal lining, and was carrying a torch, please contact the Nowra Police or call Crime Stoppers on the number listed below.
As always, in case of emergency, call Triple Zero (000), in non-emergencies contact the Police Link on 131 444 or your local Police Station. To provide anonymous information call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. For domestic and family violence information visit www.police.nsw.gov.au or contact Shoalhaven Domestic Violence Officers on 4421 9666 or 4421 9665 or email shoaldvlo@police.nsw.gov.au.
Don’t forget, cops are tops.
