A hot marlin bite is happening just in time for the Bermagui Big Game Anglers Club Bermagui Bait and Tackle/Shimano Australia Fishing Bluewater Classic this weekend. Scotty at Bermi Bait & Tackle reports Sunday was a nice day on the water as water temps pushed above 24 degrees in the arvo, which sent a few in closer to find the break.

Mr Hooker had a double and got both, Tru Dee V ended up with two. Nick Lazzaro and the girls were also stoked to get theirs. Still in Bermagui, gummy sharks off Wallaga and some good snapper and tiger flathead.
Hayden Ross sent us a quick video of a few marlin we got one day in early January off Narooma. “A good days marlin fishing off Narooma in early January. Four fish landed and another two dropped.” Check it our below:
The Keep Australia Fishing Facebook page reports the factory trawler Geelong Star was spotted off Tura Beach on Sunday morning. “(It) is travelling southwards away from the Batemans Bay - the Tollgate Classic on January 15-17 and the Bermagui Blue water Classic on Jan. 23! Don't forget to send your message to Local Member Peter Hendy...”
Speaking of billfish, Benny from Charter Fish Narooma got a short-billed spearfish estimated at 35-40kg recently. It wasn't weighed but the Australian record stands at 32kg. Fellow skipper Nick Cowley got a striped marlin a couple days later so its one billfish all for their in-house marlin comp thus far. Nick also reports some very nice kingfish caught at Montague Island both Monday and Tuesday with 97cm the biggest and a few in the mid to low 90s, although there are still plenty of rats around.
In the estuaries, Darren “Dash” Bowater and son Riley had an epic day both getting their PB bream on his new REVO MGX20 reel, 43cm and 42cm respectively. Well done guys although you will have to ask Dash just where they were fishing! The kingfish in Wagonga Inlet are still around but just like their outside mates are proving fickle.
Graham up at Moruya Tackle World reports a few good catches, mostly being bream coming in from around the hospital caught on mullet fillet. The whiting are starting to turn up in a few numbers down the front of the system - fishing the flats on the incoming tide should see some results. Flathead are eagerly taking soft plastics with the ever reliable red bloodworm being the go-to colour, just add a bit more Sfactor to the plastic. For the luderick fishos a few of these fish are turning up around the weed beds near Ryan's creek and to make it really interesting forget the green weed or nippers and try locally tied weed flies.
At Tuross, Graham reports whiting are being caught down the front using squirt worms or bloodworms if you are after a bit of excitement try using surface lures. Flathead are being caught down the front using live poddies as well as Eco Gear Breamer Vibes and Zman soft plastics. On the rocks and beaches, there have been great numbers of bream, whiting, trevally and flathead caught along airport beach with the breakwall producing good numbers of tailor with a few salmon thrown in - stick to beach worms and pillies. Offshore there have been big mowies, flathead, pigfish, gummy sharks and some nice reds to around 3 kilo are being caught around the 70 meters of water from Moruya to Tuross.
