NSW Public Libraries Marketing Awards saw the library recently receive a Highly Commended Award in the Program Category.
Paws ‘n’ Tales, run by Paws Pet Therapy aims to improve participants reading and communication skills by having children between the ages of four to eight read to dogs.
Research has demonstrated that reading to a friendly, trained dog increases confidence, self-esteem and literacy skills in children while also helping children in discovering the joy of reading.
The program was launched in February and has proven successful with the nine regular participants who have demonstrated an increase in literacy and communication skills and confidence.
