The current warning level by the NSW Rural Fire Service is Watch and Act.
1.35PM: The RFS estimates strong southerly winds to hit the Beecroft Weapons Range fire about 3pm.
An RFS spokesman said while they’re not warning residents of Currarong yet, they do want people in the town to be prepared for possible ember attack and thick smoke.
“We are working on strategies but at this stage we have to wait until the fire gets out of that impact zone,” he said.

A fire is burning in the Beecroft Weapons Range at Jervis Bay. The fire is burning in the Defence impact zone so firefighters and aircraft can not do any active fire fighting.
A number of RFS crews are in the area on standby.
Currarong residents reported hearing “heavy bombing” on the peninsula for a couple of hours on Wednesday afternoon.
Southerly winds reached Batemans Bay just before 1pm, however at this stage the RFS is not concerned about it’s impact on the fire and potentially the nearby village of Currarong.
They have however issued this alert. As the southerly change moves through people in Currarong should monitor the conditions.
