One event was held at HMAS Albatross and another hosted by the South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation at Harry Sawkins Park on Wednesday.
Louise Williams and Sue Davies from the Nowra Domestic Violence Intervention Service spoke at the HMAS Albatross event and said the support was strong and people kept arriving.
Highly respected community leader Gerry Moore kicked off White Ribbon Day locally at the South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation’s event in Harry Sawkins Park on Wednesday.
Mr Moore said he was honoured to deliver the Welcome to Country and to take the White Ribbon pledge at the Harry Sawkins Park event.
“The White Ribbon campaign gives us, as men, a pathway to take some leadership and responsibility on this important issue,” he said.
“It is a minority of men that perform or condone violence against women. Thanks to White Ribbon, more and more men are standing up and saying this behavior and attitude are unacceptable.
“This is how we achieve social change – men committing to unity with the strong women who are providing leadership and support of the most vulnerable in the fight against intimate partner and family violence.”
Another White Ribbon Day event will be held on Saturday December 5 at Harry Sawkins Park from 3.20pm.
