The initiative is being run by South Coast First Aid and Skills to Save Lives and will take place on Take Heart Australia Day.
Organisers are hoping to set a record with the most amount of people performing CPR at once and will be running several sessions at two different locations.
Each session will last at least 30 minutes and everyone is welcome, from schools, clubs and businesses to members of the general public.
From 8am to 5pm, CPR training will be held at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre. Bookings are preferred and anyone interested is encouraged to email info@southcoastfirstaid.com.au or call 0410 024 869.
A second session will run from 9am to 6pm at the Bay and Basin Leisure Centre, Vincentia. To book, contact Colleen Allan on 0402 737 585.
Up to 20,000 people across Australia are expected to take part in similar events as part of Take Heart Australia Day.
Accounting for almost 20 per cent of total deaths in Australia, sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time and Take Heart Australia is on a mission to dramatically decrease this statistic.
Take Heart Australia is a national body for improving the survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest in Australia.
Founder of the organisation, Paul Middleton said the key to saving a life lies in training.
“The first five minutes hold the key to survival,” he said.
“We need more people of all ages who are trained and willing to provide immediate CPR.
“Aussies are great at a lot of things, like sport but when it comes to knowing and performing CPR, the community can do a lot more to kick life-saving goals.”
Founded in 2014, Take Heart Australia brings together experts from heathcare, academia, community, government and the private sector to form an effective approach to saving lives.
Take Heart Australia’s ultimate aim is to make it the norm-rather than the exception- to survive cardiac arrest.
The Bay and Basin Leisure Centre is located at The Wool Road Vincentia and the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre can be found at 42 Bridge Road, Nowra.
