The Australian survivor of a terror massacre inside the Bataclan concert hall at Paris believes young people were targeted in the attack to "incite hate".

Emma Parkinson, 19, told the story of her escape from the attack to 60 Minutes on Sunday.

Shot by a gunman and covered in blood, she ran from the theatre and hid for hours in a nearby residence in silence, afraid the attackers would find them in the building.

"They were targeting young people who were having fun and laughing. And being happy. What young people do," Parkinson told 60 Minutes' Ross Coulthart.

"The only reason why you would want to target that specific demographic would be to incite hate, and incite fear, and try and make people afraid and escalate problems that already exist in this country and in other Western countries," she said.

Parkinson recounted the horrific scenes inside the hall as four attackers entered and began to shoot.

"There was no one that didn't have blood on them. Everyone was covered. I'm just seeing people running as fast as they could," she said.

"Someone could have died right next to me and I probably wouldn't have realised because it was just people rushing and trying to get out and I was just thinking of trying to get out."

Parkinson was praised on social media for the poise and calm she showed during her interview.

She said the relief she felt when emergency services entered the building she had hidden in was overwhelming.

"I didn't notice it at the time but every muscle in my body was tensed and at that moment I relaxed, physically."

She said Paris would not be cowed by the attacks, which left 129 dead and more than 300 injured.

"The reaction of the French people, to not only this specific thing but adversity in general is one of solidarity. And to band together and to know that we can get through this".
