BREAK out the champagne and caviar. Heat up the party pies and sausage rolls. Blow up the balloons and light up the fireworks because this is the 50th On The Beat I have written. It’s been a crazy ride, from no fans in the early days to at least four fans that I know of today. Hip Hip, Hooray! For he’s a jolly good fellow etc. Anyhoo it’s now down to business.

Picture this.
You’re at home doing the dishes or washing your hair or maybe putting your make up on. Your wife is at work. Suddenly, there is a knock on the front door. You walk over to the front door and open it. There in front of you are two females. They seem to be OK, but why are they here at your door? One girl asks to use the phone. At this point, there are a couple of things that you can do. You could let them in to use the phone and while you are watching one of the girls, the other is flogging your wallet, or iPhone, your computer or anything else that is portable and not nailed down, or you could deny them access to your home and offer to contact the police for them. This should get them running down the driveway at light speed.
Your house is your castle and you are the gate keeper. You do not have to let any person into your house unless you want them in there. I would definitely say that random people rocking up to the front door and wanting to use the phone does not qualify for entry. Send them on their way.

If you are out shopping, please be aware of what is going on around you. There are crooks around that are looking for any vulnerability you may have in regards to the security of your wallet, purse or handbag. We still have incidents where people have not zipped up their bags or looked away for a moment and in a split second their wallet or purse have disappeared. I seem to be going on about this nearly every week. Please think about the security of your valuables and we can all move on.
Next Wednesday, November 25 is White Ribbon Day.
On this day we observe the international day of the elimination of violence against women. White Ribbon Day signals the start of the 16 days of activism to stop violence against women, which ends on Human Rights Day (December 10).
Get on the Google and see what activities are going on in your area and be a part of men against violence towards women. If you want a big thrill, go to the North Nowra Community Centre on Sunday, November 22 between 11am and 1pm for a community safety meeting and have a chat with me or Liliana, the council’s community safety officer.
Let’s make Nowra a safer place to live.
