Outrigger canoe paddling plays a big part in Pacific Island culture.
Nowra Waterdragons introduced outrigger paddling to it's members for cross training purposes. The sport has gained in popularity to the extent that the club has affiliated with the Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association in order to compete in outrigger canoe racing as well as dragonboat racing.
The club has two, six crew outrigger canoes which are kept at Callala Bay Sailing Boat Clubhouse. Members can form teams to train and compete together within the club whereas the dragonboat teams are put together by club selectors for each specific event according to paddlers enthusiasm and availability. The other difference offered is the appeal of open water paddling over still water paddling. Most club members enjoy both sports as it is wonderful for fitness and teamwork.
The team going to the Cook Islands would like to thank Office Works staff of Nowra for the discount on the educational goods and Bunnings Nowra for providing junior painting aprons.
Nowra Waterdragons welcome new members by offering three free sessions with coaching in both dragonboat and outrigger paddling, the club is sociable and friendly. Offer available to people aged between 13 and 70 years of age. More information: Peter on 0410040507 or Deb on 0423965389.
