Both motorcyclists, believed to be in their 50s, are now listed as being in stable condition according to a spokesman at the Canberra Hospital.
UPDATE 1.50PM: A 4WD was travelling east when it collided with a motorbike heading in the opposite direction on Tantawangalo Mountain Rd.
The driver – who has serious leg injuries and fractures to their wrist – and passenger on the motorbike have been airlifted by the Snowy Hydro Rescue Helicopter to hospital.
A police spokesperson said he believed the male and female on the motorbike were from interstate.
The incident occurred about 11.10am on Wednesday, October 14, about 6km west of Candelo.
The spokesperson said Tantawangalo Mountain Rd was to be closed for about six hours for crash investigators to complete their work.
The male driver of the 4WD was arrested and taken to Bega Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.
1PM: Two people have been airlifted to hospital after a car crash on Tantawangalo Mountain Rd near Candelo.
The Snowy Hydro Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Candelo around 11.30am Wednesday, landing on Candelo Showground.
Ambulances transferred two patients into the helicopter, their condition in not known at this stage.
It is believed the crash was between a car and a motorbike carrying a passenger.
Police reports have the crash occurring around 11.10am Wednesday about 6km west of Candelo.
The two injured people are believed to have been the motorcyclists, while the driver of the car has been taken to hospital to undergo mandatory blood and urine testing.
Tantawangalo Mountain Rd has been closed until further notice while crash scene investigators attend the scene.
Investigators are on their way from Wollongong and aren't expected on scene until late Wednesday afternoon.
