Police said they hope to re-open the stretch of road within the next 30 minutes.
Police confirmed the crash occurred about 3.20pm on Thursday afternoon when a white sedan travelling west on Jervis Bay Road collided with a gas tanker heading south on the Princes Highway.
Two Chinese people, visiting Australia on a holiday, were injured as a result.
The male driver of the white sedan was trapped within the vehicle for some time and sustained chest and abdominal injuries, which are not life-threatening.
The female passenger also sustained similar injuries but was not trapped.
Both people, have been transported to Shoalhaven Hospital.
4.05pm: The accident involving a white sedan, collided with a gas tanker.
The driver of the sedan remains within the vehicle.
4pm: Accident is south of Jervis Bay Road on the Princes Highway.
Heavy traffic conditions as the highway has been closed in both directions.
Expect delays.
Diversions have been made northbound into Mortimer Road, Gardener Road, Jervis Bay Road then back onto the Princes Highway. Southbound will follow the same route in reverse.
3.50pm: There has been an accident on the Princes Highway near the Jervis Bay Road intersection.
Emergency services are attending.
There is a person trapped.
