Family, clients and support workers turned out to discuss the options available.
Southern Cross CEO Marg Kaszo said the gathering kick-started some important conversations.
“We just wanted to get some idea of the level of need for housing and what type is required,” she said.
“We need to get some idea of the numbers out there so we can start our planning process before the National Disability Insurance Scheme comes into place in 2017,” she said.
Ms Kaszo said community input suggested various types of housing will be needed.
“The meeting reflected the varying types of needs that people have and it all depends on their level of disability,” she said.
“Many people like to be in a mixed community and they can live independently with some support but others who are not as independent need a more hands on style.
“It was really good for Southern Cross in terms of planning ahead.”
While the organisation will be holding more consultation meetings, Ms Kasco encouraged anyone not in attendance who would like to make an input, to contact either herself on 4421 5145 or Beth Dodd at Family and Community Services on 4424 5100.
