RFS crews and two appliances from Fire and Rescue NSW Nowra and Shoalhaven are at the scene on Culburra Road, near the entrance to the seaside village.
The former service station hasn’t been used for a number of years and it is believed the petrol smell may be coming from the disused underground tanks.
Crews are spraying water over the one particular tank on the eastern side of complex.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews are doing atmospheric monitoring, while ground monitors are also in place to try and locate the source of the odour.
Hazmat crews are on the way from Shellharbour.
Endeavour Energy has been called to the location to ensure power is disconnected to the building.
NSW Ambulance crews are also at the scene.
Due to many different services in the area, a number of utility companies are being called to the location to offer assistance.
A 200 metre exclusion zone is being established around the area and residents are advised to avoid the area.
