It’s the end of the year and you are on holidays. You have set up your camp and you are having a great time. The kids are riding around on their bikes, the wife/husband/partner has gone for a walk and all is well with the world. In the evening you have a couple of drinks, eat dinner and then go to bed. When you go to sleep you dream of the big fat fellow with a white beard, wearing a red suit. Your subconscious plays Jingle Bells in the background.
Suddenly, you are woken by a noise coming from outside. You look outside through the misty, plastic window of your tent and you see a big fat fellow in a red suit. Hang on, the fellow is not so fat and the red suit is really a red hoodie. This person is not Santa, he is the anti-Santa. The anti-Santa sneaks around your campsite around Christmas time (in reality, any time of the year), and while you are asleep he will take anything valuable that is left outside. Bikes, Esky’s full of meat, mobile phones and even beer, wine and spirits.
Most of the time you will not see or hear the anti-Santa. You may hear a noise and go outside, there you may get a glimpse of something in the moonlight dragging your Esky or other piece of camping equipment into the nearby bush, but that is it. You probably won’t ever see your property ever again.
Who’s fault is it? Yours, or the anti-Santa’s? I’ll make the choice easier for you. There is no such thing as the anti-Santa. It is a figment of my imagination. Just like the time when I won the Mr. America Bodybuilding Title or when I starred in the last Star Trek movie. It didn’t happen. Therefore, the fault must lie with the person that did not secure the property. That would be you.
The moral of the story is, if you do not want your property to be stolen over the holiday break, secure it properly and you will not become a victim of your own making.
