The annual ceremony was held in Orange this year, but it was the local soil trudgers who were awarded for their outstanding contributions and initiatives.
Andrew Britton took out the Australian Government Landcare Facilitator or Co-ordinator category for his work on the award-winning Small Farms Network in the Shoalhaven, Illawarra and Southern Highlands.
It was only recently Mr Britton joined the South East Local Land Services team in Berry.
Mr Britton works closely with 600 Small Farms Network members for sustainable land management outcomes. He has led the establishment of four active networks including South Coast Beef Producers, South Coast Sheep Network, Croobyar Road Farming Group, and more recently, the Shoalhaven Beekeepers Association.
Through his co-ordination, these groups have received 35 environmental grants to fund network activities.
Bill Pigott won both the inaugural Gerald Carnie Memorial Award and the Australian Government Individual Landcarer Award.
Mr Pigott’s involvement in Landcare ranges from his local bushcare site at Moyen Hill, near Berry, to leadership roles with district and regional Landcare networks. He has also represented the region on the NSW Landcare Council.
During his expansive career, Mr Piggott has planted over 5000 native plants and volunteered 2000 hours rehabilitating his local reserve.
He is often spotted at local shows and field days engaging landholders and sharing his Landcare passion.
