THIRTEEN-year-old Zoe Hutchinson was always destined to be a star on horseback, with her older sister Anna heavily involved in the sport.

Her mother Penny was also involved until the age of 14 but is now the support team, driver, financier, strapper and general work person for her daughters.
Zoe was just nine-years-old when she started competing in eventing, which is a combination of three equestrian elements; dressage, show jumping and cross country.
In just four years, she has progressed so much she was recently named in the State Interschools Equestrian Team.
Hutchinson was always destined to succeed in the sport she said.
“When I was nine, I started because Mum used to do eventing with pony club when she was a little girl and my big sister did eventing,” she said.
“I just love cross country, as it is fast and dangerous, which is a real buzz.
“I have a fantastic little palomino pony called Monty [Hallelujah Monty Carlo Gold] who is a great all rounder.
“He used to be my sister's and we have had him since he was four-years-old and he is now turning 12 in November.”
This is the second year Hutchinson has been selected into the team, despite advancing up a level since last year from EvA 80 (Intro) to EvA 95 (Prelim).
“Last year Mum and I drove down to Victoria as it was held in Weribee,” she said.
“It means a lot because it is so very different competing as part of a team rather than just by myself, as the whole atmosphere is so incredible and the team bond.
“To make the team this year, I entered in the Interschool Championship Qualifier in Sydney at the International Equestrian Centre in the EvA 95cm (prelim) against many other schools representing Nowra Anglican College and won against a very large class.
“Then we get the offer of being selected by EA and I entered my best five results during the year and had to write to them explaining why I would be an asset to the NSW team.
“Then I just had to wait and see if I made the team.”
The Tapitallee resident said her preparation won’t change too much ahead of the National Interschool Championships at Sydney International Equestrian Centre from September 28 to October 2 competition.
“I train every day and some mornings I’m up at six and lunge Monty then ride when I get home,” she said.
“I have coaching once a week, sometimes twice a week.
“My coaches are Marlene Battedou from France and Ashely Adams from the US and both of my coaches help me with my riding but also the mental challenges I face when competing.
“It’s great to know that Marlene is always only a phone call away.”
Hutchinson would one day like to follow in the footsteps of her coach Ashley Adams by becoming a four star eventing rider, as well as riding for Australia at the Olympics in eventing.
