Best we avoid a messy conflict

WHILE the plight of Syrian people is indeed tragic, it’s open to question whether and how any Australian military entry into the Syrian part of these Middle East conflicts will have any long-term benefit, other than “alliance assurance” with the US. The idea has since 1950 inspired Australian forces being signed up to any war they execute – in contrast to Britain, New Zealand and Canada who have been more careful and selective with such decisions.
