THE mayor’s radio interview on Friday with Barry Mac following the flood was most welcome and we thank her for it. Specifically in regard to Sussex Inlet one thing that I feel should not be forgotten.

Sussex Inlet is not typical as the other lakes and should not be confused with the other lakes. Its issues are unique and cannot be addressed in the same way. They are more complex
The main issue is the overtopping of St Georges Basin. The soundings of the river taken by Edwardson of HMS The Snapper in 1822 clearly show that the channel and bar were much deeper than it is in these modern times before development.
The river now has to cope with larger, but less frequent volumes of stormwater. What would happen if you did not keep the gutters of your house roof clear?
P. Beckett,
Sussex Inlet.
