Hills continued his best year on two wheels recently by winning the East Coast MX Series.
In the five round series, Hills travelled to Lake Macquarie, Canberra, Port Macquaire, Maitland and Mt Kembla.
In the final round at Mt Kembla, Hills showed his class, winning all three of the under nine 50cc races.
“I know the Kembla track quite well and that showed with me winning all three races by more than 100 metres on the day,” Hills said.
“I even clocked three of the four fastest lap times of the day.”
The fastest of Hills’ laps was 1:05.850 in the second race of the day.
His quickest full circuit was clocked in his first attempt of the track, taking 8:26.442.
“I’m over the moon that I was able to win the East Coast series, which started racing in Febraury,” Hills said.
“At the start of the year, I had three goals, which were to win the East Coast Series, win the state titles and win the Nowra club championship.
“I had a bad run at the state events, with numerous bike issues but to finish fourth is still something I’m proud of.
“And at the moment, I’m sitting in first in the Nowra competition, which doesn’t finish until November, so there is still work to do there.”
The Nowra Public School student first got into riding when his father Greg put him on a bike at age three.
Since then, with natural ability and training from local motocross star Cody Mackie, Hills has developed into a speed machine.
“Cody has been a huge influence on my career so far,” Hills said.
“My dad approached him two years ago and thankfully since then, we have gelled really well and the results have come.
“We try and get to the track every two weeks for training, along with regular competitions on Sunday’s.”
Hills is the latest in a long line of motocross stars to come out of the Shoalhaven, including Matt and Jake Moss and Cody Mackie.
“We are lucky in the Shoalhaven to have such a high-quality track and strong competition that continues to push me each week,” Hills said.
Along with winning the Nowra club championships later this year, Hills has big goals for the future.
“We have plans to attend the Stadium Cross again next year in January and try to win that again,” Hill said.
“Stepping into the 65cc next year, I also want to push for the state titles.
“Eventually I would like to make it to the US and race in the AMA series, but that’s a long way off.”
Hills said none of this success would be possible without the support of sponsors such as Lusty Industries, Seven, Yatcon Civil, John Hills Signs and Jobson Motosport.
