Director of Assets and Works Ben Stewart said council’s damage bill was expected to be more than $200,000.
“Staff are assessing numerous assets throughout the city which suffered damage during the floods, while work crews have already started the clean-up and repairs in some areas,” Mr Stewart said.
“As soon as flood waters started receding crews were out in the field.
“They are cleaning up flood damage and where possible repairing roads.
“We have already had crews out cleaning debris off Bolong Road and repairing the road surface where possible.
“We used a street sweeper to remove debris off both Bolong and Gerroa roads.
“We have started some short-term repairs on those roads as well as in other areas that have been flooded across the city.”
He said council had already identified some significant damage to infrastructure including a landslip in Burrier, a broken culvert on Kinghorne Street next to Marriott Park, a creek crossing at Upper Kangaroo Valley as well as large amounts of damage to numerous roads throughout the city.
“We have staff out assessing and mapping the many roads that have been damaged,” he said.
They are using the latest technology, with Mr Stewart saying GoPro cameras were being used to provide staff a better opportunity to document the damage and also capture natural disaster evidence.
“We also have crews out assessing the drainage structures, now we can see them,” he said.
“There is significant damage in the landslip at Burrier and it could take a significant amount of time to repair.
“Crews are also working to remove a large number of fallen trees on roads between Berry and Kangaroo Valley.
“They are cleaning up amenity buildings, parks and playgrounds.
“Work crews are also following up on numerous maintenance requests from local residents.”
Further south and he said crews had made their way into the St Georges Basin, Sanctuary Point, Sussex Inlet and Conjola areas to start maintenance and repair work.
