The couple have run the Sussex Inlet Marine Centre for seven years and are circumspect when it comes to flooding.
“It’s not the first time but hopefully the last,” said Brian as the couple completed their clean-up on Thursday.
“We had about two and a half foot, or waist-high, water flow through the building.”
Despite losing some perishable goods and having to take everything out of the building to clean, they say they are lucky.
“It’s a good excuse for a clean-out,” Brian joked.
“The building hasn’t suffered anything structural but we lost some perishables we couldn’t take with us.
“Our freezers and electricals were all good, we moved them out to friends before the water rose.
“This was a pretty big flood. We thought 2013 was big but this was much bigger, it was nearly double that.”
“We are about three quarters of the way through the clean-up,” Samantha said.
“When the water goes down we will just hose it all out.
“That’s the great thing about a boat shed, it’s made to have water go up and down.”
“It’s a self-draining building so we are very lucky,” Brian said.
“And we have great staff that help us out as well.”
