“I write in response to the federal government’s Mobile Black Spot Program in regional areas.
“Many locals may not be aware that the program is an Australian Government initiative to extend mobile phone coverage and competition in regional Australia.
“The program sets out to improve mobile coverage and wireless broadband services and competition in the provision of these services.
“There is $100 million over four years set aside for the Mobile Black Spot Program.
“The program is aimed at improving coverage along major transport routes, in small communities and in locations prone to experiencing natural disasters, as well as addressing unique mobile coverage problems.
“Many of you would be aware of the major black spot for mobile phones between the area north of the East Lynne shop and Cullendulla on the Princes Highway.
“This area has no mobile coverage at all.
“I was unfortunate enough to be the first car on the scene of an horrific accident that claimed three lives, two of them children, near the Pebbly Beach turn-off in 2009.
“I could not call for assistance and had to wait for a truck driver to arrive and use his CB radio to call emergency services.
“I would greatly appreciate any assistance the government could provide in improving mobile service to this area.
“I also encourage anyone in our electorate experiencing mobile and internet coverage problems to report them via http://www.annsudmalismp.com.au/mobile-coverage-programme.”
