As winter temperatures dipped to near freezing this year, local residents spared a thought for the region’s homeless through a special project called Let’s Yarn Bomb Nowra.

Narrell Brown from Sanctuary Point set up a Facebook page about 10 days ago and within 12 hours 200 people offered to lend a hand.
She called for people to knit or crochet something warm for the homeless and the results were hung along the fence of the Manse building on Saturday for those in need to freely collect.
Beanies, scarves, jumpers, rugs and more eclectic items brightened the sidewalk on the corner of Kinghorne and North streets and passers by stopped to photograph the colourful items.
Ms Brown said she was overwhelmed by the response.
“Craft groups, aunts, grandmothers and young craftspeople have helped out. There’s just been so much contribution, it’s been amazing,” she said.
“The stuff has come from everywhere.
“I knew the fence would show the items off nicely and it seems appropriate near the church and in the centre of town for accessibility.”
Ms Brown said the items would be left overnight for those too shy to collect what they needed during the day.
“When the sun goes down and it gets colder, that’s when people go, ‘Oh, dear, now I need something warm’,” she said.
“Anybody in need will have something.”
