Around 2.30pm a black Mazda hatchback and a black Mitsubishi Triton towing a caravan collided at the Island Point Road intersection, Tomerong.
The 78-year-old male, from Canberra, driver of the Mazda, was travelling north along the Princes Highway when he made a right turn into Island Point Road.
The car appeared to have stopped on the highway when it collided with the second vehicle.
The car was carrying a 77-year-old female passenger, also from Canberra, who was airlifted to Canberra Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital with minor injuries.
The Mitsubishi Triton was driven by a 37-year-old male, from Sydney, who was travelling south on the Princes Highway.
A 36-year-old female passenger and two children, from Sydney, were taken to Shoalhaven Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the vehicle appeared to be uninjured.
Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit is looking into the incident.
It took some time for traffic to clear.
