The high school sweethearts tied the knot three years ago, had a baby eight months ago, and have full-time jobs but will manage to spend this weekend racing against Australia’s best motocross professionals in the MX Nationals at Yerriyong.
The Nowra couple will be the only local privateers competing against a field of up to 40, many of which are professional factory riders.
Between clients at Hannah’s beauty salon, she said motocross keeps her sane.
During the week she plays with makeup and on the weekends she plays in the dirt.
“When I’m riding, that’s what I’m focused on. It’s a good mental break from everything else that’s going on,” Mrs Jobson said.
She wasn’t always into bikes. Before Simon she rode horses but it didn’t take him long to gently change her ways.
“Some of my mates were very surprised to see a chick ride a 450 the way Hannah does,” Mr Jobson said.
“I taught Hannah to ride and thought it might just become a bit of a hobby for her, but it wasn’t long before she wanted to get into racing.
“Most of my mates race too and Hannah would give some of them a run for their money.
“We’ve been together since we were about 17 years old, so it was Dad who was driving us to the tracks and supporting us.
At home they said the dinner conversation and the pillow-talk often revolved around motocross.
They motivate and bounce ideas off each other.
“We train in the gym four days a week and ride about one day a week. If Simon is not feeling up to it I’ll push him and he does the same for me,” Mrs Jobson said.
Mr Jobson said he was a bit nervous about his races on Sunday. Despite winning a clutch of national titles over the years this will be his first open race since becoming a father.
You can watch Simon take on Australia’s best on Sunday at 11.25am and 2.35pm.
