The report showed in the 2014 calendar year there were significant decreases in homicide, down 18 per cent; robbery (all categories), down 18.5 per cent; unlawful entry with intent (break and enter), down 7.4 per cent; motor vehicle theft, down 6.6 per cent; and assault (all categories), down 4.9 per cent.
NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione welcomed the latest crime statistics, attributing the results to the hard work and tenacity of officers, as well as extensive community co-operation and engagement.
“These results reflect the hard work of the NSW Police Force. I am extremely proud of all my officers who deliver day in and day out to protect the community and keep it safe,” he said.
The statistics showed a small rise in sexual assault offences, 0.9 per cent, which reflected a nationwide trend, possibly the result of increased reporting.
