Hosted by registered nurse and certified fit specialist Rita Sullivan at Knickerboxers, the day offers a discreet opportunity for women who have had a mastectomy to learn about what services and products are available locally.
“This is very much about sharing awareness and helping women in our community who live with breast cancer to gain or regain their confidence,” Mrs Sullivan said.
The fittings will run from 9am to 5pm and to add a touch of class and comfort Mrs Sullivan and her staff are holding a high tea throughout the day.
“Discretion is a large part of this. There are a lot of women in our community who have had a mastectomy and nobody knows,” she said.
“This day can be particularly helpful for women with breast cancer who might not yet be ready for a prosthetic breast.
“Come in and just have a chat to become familiar with it all so it’s not such a shock when it happens.
“When a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, she will have a lot going on, so this is a great day for women who don’t know what to do next or who don’t know about the fitting service.
“For women who already have a prosthetic breast and pocketed bra it is worth having a check to make sure it still suits your body shape and size. Women’s bodies change and with it their bra and prosthetic should be matched.
“As a registered nurse and a fitter I can spot things that need attention where others might overlook it,” she said.
Women are encouraged to make a booking on 4422 8335 but Mrs Sullivan said they would be welcome to just drop in.
