IN reply to P. Hawkins’ letter (July 22), like everyone, I am disappointed to see the paper mill close and feel dreadful for the families that are affected.

But P. Hawkins clearly doesn’t understand that the paper mill doesn’t produce copy paper – it produces security paper used for bank notes and passports; it’s a specialist product not used in offices and government departments.
These products are not used by state governments so to blame Gareth Ward for this one smacks of sneaky politics from someone who either doesn’t understand the issues or has a hidden political agenda.
As for the ethanol debate, this is a product that consumers need to decide to use.
The government shouldn’t be in the business of telling motorists what’s best for their vehicle. I support ethanol being a choice – not a mandate.
