IT takes a special kind of stupidity to lob a rock at a passing car. And running out into traffic on the highway to retrieve said rock after it has struck a vehicle takes stupid to a whole new level.

Hard to believe but this is exactly what has been happening on the approaches to the bridge over the Shoalhaven River near the council chambers. Sadly, young people whose daftness could easily put someone in a hospital or worse walk among us. Naturally, the police want the public to help take them off the street before someone is seriously injured or killed.
The fact one of the victims in a string of attacks in the same area over the past couple of months is a close friend of Andrew Timbs, whose wife Nicole suffered critical injuries after the car in which she travelling was struck by a rock near Kiama, sheets home the urgency of catching the perpetrators.
The consequences of rock throwing are too apparent to the Timbs and Miller families, who endured months of worry as Nicole went through treatment and rehab. Their friend Paul Maiolo is thanking his lucky stars the rock that hit his ute struck the bonnet and not the windscreen. If it had been the latter, who knows what the consequences would have been?
The spate of rock-throwing is not the only case of teenagers running riot through our community. Last week we reported the plight of Debbie Abello, whose store in Bomaderry was targeted by a gang of teens who regularly abused and threatened staff and had customers hiding in fear. Ms Abello’s outpouring on social media continues to prompt a huge response from the community who are overwhelmingly fed up with the poor behaviour.
So let’s put the call out. If you see idiots like these making life miserable, report them to the police, especially if their actions are endangering others.
