ARTIE Smith Oval and West Street Oval were host to the annual junior AFL challenge, with teams from Illawarra, Sapphire, Central Coast, Central West and Hunter competing against the local Shoalhaven teams.

Competition started on the Friday night and ran all-weekend, with four different age groups participating, as well as Auskick.
In the under 12s, Illawarra claimed the title, as they defeated Central Coast 5.5.35 to 1.1.7 in the final.
Sapphire edged out the local Shoalhaven team in the under 14 boys competition.
Extra time was needed to separate the two sides, as the visitors eventually one by a single point 9.4.59 to 9.4.58.
Sapphire again proved why it is considered such a strong nursery of young AFL talent, winning the under 16s.
They defeated the local Shoalhaven team 8.4.52 to 3.7.25 in the final.
The final competition staged over the weekend was the under 13-17 youth girls.
In the final, Central Coast proved too strong for Central West, winning 6.2.38 to 3.2.20.
This was the eighth time the carnival was held and it continues to grow each year.
