Raymond Michael Marczan, 51, of Powell Avenue, pleaded guilty to drive recklessly, furiously or at speed manner dangerous in Nowra Local Court on Monday.
Police facts stated between 3.45am and 3.50am on May 18 at Shoalhaven Heads, he allegedly reached speeds close to 160km/h on Gerroa Road.
Police originally spotted a blue Ford Falcon during routine patrols on Bolong Road at Bomaderry.
The car was seen to accelerate dramatically after going past the speed camera on Bolong Road.
Police said the car sped through a road work area north of the Manildra factory, where the usual speed limit of 100km/h had been reduced to 80km/h.
Police said they accelerated to 140km/h in an attempt to stop the vehicle and later increased to 150 and 160km/h and only bridged the gap when the vehicle slowed slightly in the 80km/h zone adjacent to the Shoalhaven Heads township.
Police allege when the vehicle hit the 100km/h Gerroa Road at Shoalhaven Heads it accelerated again with police managing to stop the car just south of Beach Road.
When he was eventually stopped by police Marczan allegedly said “It was just stupid – I was going to work in Sydney – just stupid.”
Magistrate Michael Stoddart disqualified him from driving for two years and six months and fined him $2000.
He was also placed on a two-year good behaviour bond.
