Midfielder Gary Vian led to way for his team, as he scored a goal either side of half-time to ensure the three points for Gerringong.

Gerringong coach Craig Farquhar was happy with the win but said his team was wasteful in front of goals.

“We controlled the pace of the game very well and held onto possession, but lacked the class at the end of our attacks,” he said.

“The final pass seemed to let us down on a number of occasions, which is something we need to fix.”

The visitors started the match the stronger, creating a number of chances within the opening few minutes.

But it took 20 minutes before they made their break-through.

“Alex Bayer played a great ball through from midfield to Gary Niemrier, who timed his run well,” Farquhar said.

“Niemrier pushed the ball forward before making a sensational cross that found Gary Vian, to slot our opener.

“It was the reward we deserved for dominating the opening exchanges.”

As the first half closed, Gerringong pushed hard for a second but they couldn’t find one.

“Bomaderry had their own chances but our defence handled them pretty well and shut down their opportunities,” Farquhar said.

“Their defence was always causing troubles for our attack, as we probably should have had a couple of goals on the board.”

Gerringong’s lead was finally doubled when Vian scored his second, halfway through the second.

“Gary Niemrier was again involved in the lead-up, and put Riley Foenander into space with a quality ball,” Farquhar said.

“Foenander then put in a threatening cross, which Vian finished.”

“It’s good to see goals coming from crosses as we like to try and use the full-width of the park when we can.

“By dominating the centre of the park and making space, it allowed us to stay on top against Bomaderry.”

Despite the win, Farquhar knows there is still room to grow for his team.

“Even though we didn’t play our best, we still got the result, which is great for us,” he said.

“Our build up was good, with both the midfielders and defenders playing well.

“We just need more poise in the final third of the park, to ensure we keep getting the results we are after.”
