THE Nowra CBD Car Parking Development Committee would express amazement that Mayor Gash continues to pursue her now very personal whim of objection to multi-level car parking, with particular reference to the Nowra CBD.

From the very beginning of her reign as mayor, she has protested that she supports the concept of improved car parking but not, in her words, “ugly” multi-level car parks.
We would question, in this modern era, how one might improve parking other than by erecting a multi-level, purpose built car park.
We would also suggest that it need not be ugly. In fact, with some application and architectural skill, it could be an attraction in itself, to the point of being a local landmark and tourist attraction.
On the other hand, council over the years, including Mayor Gash’s council career, has spent, we suggest, hundreds of thousands of dollars on consultants to confirm the absolute need for all-day car parking space in Nowra CBD, including where it should be erected.
The present (Gash) council has investigated and agreed on the need for, the place for, the possible alternatives for, the justifications for and the financing of, an all-day Nowra CBD multi-level car park at the corner of Berry-Worrigee streets.
Council is now officially seeking DA approval for the expensively pre-designed multi-level car park.
Mayor Gash, your personal whim of opposition to a matter already so thoroughly and expensively pursued by your own council could throw doubt on your judgment.
L. Sewell,
Nowra CBD Car Parking Development Committee.
