Mr Ell was selected under the theme, Australian Stars Rising Above, which celebrates up and coming Australians who are achieving beyond their years and making positive changes in their community.
Mr Ell experienced first-hand the benefits of the Smith Family’s Learning for Life program.
Now, aged 24, as an ambassador for the Smith Family he is dedicated to breaking the cycle of disadvantage in his community.
Acting as an mentor and role model, Mr Ell connects directly with disadvantaged Shoalhaven families to ensure they take advantage of support programs.
“Growing up, the Learning for Life program had an incredibly positive impact on my life,” he said.
“I was raised by my grandparents and lived in public housing so I understand first-hand the challenges so many families across our community face.
“I hope through raising awareness about the program, more young people will have the education and employment opportunities I had,” Mr Ell said.
“An individual’s family circumstance or their post code should not determine their destiny. “Education is a powerful gateway to a brighter future that should be available to everyone,” he said.
Yellow Pages marketing specialist, Belinda Di Pietro, said this year’s theme, Australian Stars Rising Above, recognised young Australians volunteering their time to champion projects that are helping their community.
“This year we are thrilled to recognise Paul’s efforts in creating a brighter future for his community
