St Michael's Primary School continues to throw its support behind seven year old student, Lachlan Thoroughgood, by holding a Loving Lachlan Beanie Breakfast.

The school community came together on Tuesday to raise money for Lachlan as well as raise the profile of brain cancer, by holding a breakfast on the school grounds in partnership with Power FM.
Students and teachers donned beanies and attended the early morning breakfast, with all proceeds going towards Lachlan’s treatment and further research into brain cancer.
Teacher Toni Hodges was responsible for organising the fundraiser.
“Lachlan was diagnosed last August with brain cancer and since then the St Michael’s community have come together and fundraised as well as the surrounding Shoalhaven community,” Ms Hodges said.
“Though they’ve had fundraising, his latest surgery with Charlie Teo was a very expensive process.
“It’s nice to have a space for the kids to experience this, because adults have a place they can talk to each other, but it’s nice to give them a day where they can experience the journey with Lachlan.”
Lachlan’s mother, Leanne Heanes, was overwhelmed with the support from the school and the well wishes Lachlan has received since undergoing major brain surgery last week.
“I’m really amazed by the community support, it’s mind blowing really,” Ms Heanes said.
“He’s bounced back really quickly, which is amazing, we had a few rough days.
“We still have follow-ups and further treatment in Sydney which we start in the next fortnight. For now we’re just enjoying it.
The 2015 Zero2Nine Bub & Kidz Expo raised an additional $1260 for Loving Lachlan with a gold coin donation and sausage sizzle held on Sunday.
Event co-ordinator, Courtney Fitton, said it was hard to go past Loving Lachlan as a rewarding recipient of the fundraiser.
“We wanted a local family that needed just that little bit of support and to raise awareness anyway we could,” Ms Fitton said.
“After meeting the family and meeting Lachlan, there is no way you could say no to them, they were wonderful, they really were.”
Ms Fitton also highlighted the support from local business owners, who generously supported the fundraiser.
“We had the wonderful P & R’s North Nowra Bakehouse and East Nowra Butchery come on board and donate their goods to fund the charity fundraiser, so then all the money went to Loving Lachlan,” she said.
