Coming into the match, the Tigers had recorded just one win from their three matches.
But their first home game of the season, which coincided with Matt Tyler’s 100 game for the club, gave the Tigers extra motivation to turn their form around.
Coach Sean Byrne emphasised the importance of getting a strong start to his troops pre-game.
“All week, we spoke about the importance of starting the match with high intensity and effort,” Byrne said.
“Our last couple of weeks have been good in patches but the lapses have really cost us.
“But Saturday was a great team effort, with everyone doing their job.”
The Tigers started the match at Artie Smith Oval on fire, kicking six goals to one in the opening term.
“The things we have been speaking about and working on at practice finally started to click,” Byrne said.
“It was good to see that the little things, like ball movements, we are applying to our system, are starting to pay off.
“The boys executed the game plan the way we wanted and everything just seemed to click.
“The tone was set early and it didn’t drop off all game.”
The Tigers dominated the hit-outs and clearances against the Power, which led to plenty of points being scored.
“For every clearance that Kiama managed to get, we were getting five, which is a real testament to our midfielders,” Byrne said.
“With the wet weather and draw, it has been hard to develop cohesion and good rotations.
“But things seemed to be finally taking shape yesterday, which is pleasing to see, as I know how hard the boys are working on the track.”
Byrne was particularly impressed by the four quarter performance by his team.
“Being ahead by so much, we could have just cruised,” he said.
“But we spoke about finishing the game off at three quarter time.
“And to the boy’s credit, they kicked eight goals in the final term.”
Byrne said standouts for his team were Jack Boxsell, Andrew Mazey, Matt Tyler, Jack Hangan, Courtney Ward and Andrew Ellis.
The Tigers now turn their attention to cross-town rivals Nowra Blues next weekend.
