Thompson became the club’s A grade road champions, while Miller won the club’s C grade championship.
Thompson finished the 80-kilometre A grade race 13 seconds ahead of what remained of the field and in company with guest rider James Rix.
Rix was first rider over the line but as a guest from the United Kingdom was not eligible to take a championship position.
As a former club member and former club champion, James Rix was allowed a start with restrictions.
On an overcast morning with wet roads but no rain, there was an impressive group that started the A grade event.
In the first five kilometres, there were some short attacks that went nowhere until the pressure of the Hames Road climb, where Rix made a move and Thompson counter attacked.
The field split and the frantic uphill chase saw eight riders come back together.
At the front were Rix, Thompson, defending champion Jake Stuart, Michael Troy, Mitch Cunningham, Levi Johns, Mark Fenner and Damian Mason.
A chase group was 200 metres back and Paul Mackie, Rob Rix and Aaron Lauder had a small break over Aaron Coghlan and Godfrey Green.
The lead group of eight were to remain intact until the third and final Hames climb, where a series of short attacks dislodged Stuart and Mason.
Mason dug deep to get back to the lead group with 15 kilometres remaining, despite an attack by Fenner, as his chase closed down.
A compact bunch of seven riders went into the final five kilometres and Mason attacked this time.
With just a few kilometres to the finish, Mason was not allowed to go far and was back in the group with three kilometres to go.
Cunningham jumped away and had a 50 metre break until Rix brought the bunch back to him.
Thompson went next and when Rix soloed across the gap, they were within the final two kilometres.
Thompson kept the pressure on and no other rider was able to regain the lead position.
Troy sprinted long and straight to take the bunch finish by two lengths from Cunningham, Fenner and Johns, with Mason a few seconds adrift.
Brendon Miller survived the early attacks in the 53-kilometre C grade championships, to be in the right position for the finish of that event.
A clash of shoulders saw him back off and restart his sprint, with less than 100 metres of the race remaining.
The attacks started early in this event, where Andrew Jarman and Lynne Vaughan were off the front and attempting to get over the first Hames climb ahead of the bunch.
These escapees were reeled back in on the climb and the field was intact again, after 10 kilometres had passed under the wheels.
Geoff Lockhart was on the attack on the second Hames climb and Vaughan, Jarman, Hubert Driehuis and Bill Stahlhut were chasing, while the front of the race had Mitch Stahlhut, Frank Neri, Paul Nancekivell, Chelsea Oaten, Steve Daley and Miller, all matching the pressure of the climb.
This group were intact to the finish and Mitch Stahlhut hit out for the line with 200 metres to go.
Stahlhut pulled clear and then Miller was closing rapidly.
Stahlhut was getting tired and wavered off his , as Miller was overtaking and they clashed and then straightened up, while still charging for the line.
Miller was two lengths clear over the line and Stahlhut held on for second ahead of Locjkhart, Oaten, Nancekivell, Daley and Neri.
Bill Stahlhut and Lyne Vaugahn were the other riders to finish.
The Nowra Velo Club returns to local racing on May 17 on the Flinders Industrial Complex circuit, for graded scratch races, where the BaiMed team will host the program.
Michael Troy and Scott Thompson continue with state racing next weekend, with two days of competition at Cootamundra for the Haycarters classic, a weekend that attracts over 200 entries for the weekend program.
