Don’t Bomb Bomaderry spokesperson Wes Hindmarsh, along with Bomaderry Pharmacy owner Rachel Forgan and Friendly Grocer North Nowra owner Simon Regnault, presented a number of documents to Shoalhaven Mayor Joanna Gash and deputy mayor John Wells on Tuesday.
Mr Hindmarsh said the documents included a petition with 2000 signatures opposing the development.
“There are also a number of documents expressing concern if the proposal was to go ahead and what impact it would have on Bomaderry business,” he said.
“There are 450 documents raising concerns about traffic and possible anti-social behaviour issues, while there are 400 documents raising mixed concerns.”
Cr Gash accepted the documents and said she would present them at the next council meeting.
While council has received the development application for the $13.8 million supermarket on the former John Bull Centre site near the corner of the Princes Highway and Cambewarra Road, councillors were yet to see the DA assessment.
“We are currently undertaking the assessment process,” said council’s Development and Environmental Services director Tim Fletcher
“Council has engaged a specialist economic consultant to produce a report on the impact the proposal may have on existing centres and businesses in the area,” he said.
He said the report would look at how the proposal sat in the Nowra Bomaderry Structure Plan, which included Moss Vale Road as part of the urban expansion area, which also had provision for a shopping centre and whether it met the site objectives of the zone.
Mr Fletcher said the report was almost completed and he expected the applicant to also comment through their own economic expert.
“I would envisage it would be another month before the matter is presented to council,” he said.
The single level supermarket proposal will feature a full range Woolworths store with a floor area of 3860 square metres, retail and specialty stores.
