The home, which sits opposite Nowra East Public School, at 104 Jervis Street, was brought to council’s attention in March this year after residents approached the South Coast Register, saying the house was “an eyesore and a danger”.

A resident of the street, who didn’t want to be named, said the property is a haven for vermin.

“It has been there in this condition for a while,” the woman said.

“The grass has continued to grow and soon you won’t be able to see the house.

“The property is attracting vermin like rats and snakes and they are now making their way into neighbouring properties.

“It’s not a good look, especially opposite the school.

“The students shouldn’t have to see it every day as they go to school.

“People are even dumping rubbish in front of the home.”

Shoalhaven City Council said it served a demolition order on the property owner in March 2014 but the property was part of a deceased estate and new orders were issued to the current owners.

A spokesperson said council continues to pursue the demolition of the property.

“Hopefully the issues should be resolved soon and the demolition can take place in the near future,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said council had already been provided with a clearance certificate which advised there was no friable, or loose fibre asbestos, in the building, which would make the eventual demolition quicker.
