Assistant minister for Education and Training, Senator Simon Birmingham, visited the Shoalhaven on Friday where he spoke to local business owners about the Australian Apprentice-
ship Support Network (AASN), due to begin on July 1.
The AASN is a $200 million annual investment that aims to reduce red tape in relation to recruiting, training and retaining apprentices and trainees.
“With around 1800 Australian apprentices in training in Gilmore, it is important that the right support networks are in place for employers and apprentices,” Mr Birmingham said.
Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis said the aim was to improve apprenticeship and traineeship completion rates.
She said the plan would offer financial rewards for completions as well as mentoring to assist apprentices and employers.
“Business owners will receive more help in navigating the apprenticeships system,” she said.
“These services will help reduce non-completion in this region by helping apprentices take on the right apprenticeships with the right employer.
“Having apprentices complete their study is an investment for the region in terms of jobs gained and self-esteem building for the apprentices.”
