I WAS bemused, to say the least, when I read Cr Amanda Findley’s reported comments, in the South Coast Register of April 22, regarding the possible opening of Currambene Creek for future cruise ship operators.

Cr Findlay is reported as saying “What do we do with 85 coach loads (up to 4000 passengers) once they’re dumped on the wharf at Huskisson? Has Huskisson got the existing day capacity to cope?”
Why is the councillor assuming that every passenger would go ashore for a day excursion? That is certainly not my experience.
Come on, Cr Findley, give the local tourism operators some credence. I am sure that, with a bit of planning expertise, there would be plenty to keep cruise liner passengers busy for, usually, a maximum of six-12 hours a day. Local business/tourism operators would benefit greatly by the influx of visitors.
