The African Children’s Choir is made up of children from the most dire of circumstances, who are trained and then tour overseas singing for their supper in a literal sense.
Money raised throughout what is usually a year-long tour supports the children, who are primary school aged, to finish their education and go on to high school.
The costs cover their tuition, clothing, food and supplies for school.
Started 30 years ago by a Canadian named Ray Barnett, the choir is now in its 43rd incarnation and still going strong.
It will be the children of the 42nd choir who will visit the Shoalhaven from May 4 until May 8, performing at the high school on The Wool Road, Vincentia on Thursday, May 7.
The concert, called Under One Sky, will begin at 7pm and will also feature local youth choir Impresaria, Vincentia High School’s Dance and Didj group as well as a number of local singers who will join the African Children’s Choir for their final song.
Local singers include 60 individuals as well as groups, Food of Love, Verdant Voices, Raised Voices and the International Women’s Day choir.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children and concessions and $50 for a family.
