Charles Thomas, of Kalandar Street, appeared in Nowra Local Court on Monday charged with malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and with resisting police.
Police said the 47-year-old victim from Nowra was among a group of people meeting at Scenic Drive near the Shoalhaven River late Wednesday evening.
An argument apparently broke out, with the victim attempting to intervene when he was stabbed in the hand and chest.
The man, who suffered a significant injury to his right hand and a superficial injury to his left chest, went to Nowra Police Station to report the matter.
The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and transported to Shoalhaven Hospital.
He told police who had allegedly stabbed him.
Detectives started investigations into the incident and officers patrolling Warramunga Street, Nowra at 10am Sunday found and arrested Thomas.
He was refused bail and appeared in Nowra Local Court on Monday.
Bail was not applied for and was formally refused, with Magistrate Dr Gabriel Fleming listing the matters again for Nowra Local Court on June 16.
