A grenade has been found buried in a backyard in Sydney's east, with specialist police on site.

The grenade was found shortly after 11am today in the garden of a home in Edgecliff, and a police operation is underway to secure the scene.
High Street has been closed and people have been advised to avoid the area, a spokesman for NSW Police said.
The property is close to Edgecliff station and about one kilometre from the nearest Anzac Day ceremony at Steyne Park, in Double Bay.
The 9am ceremony was attended by federal minister Malcolm Turnbull, state attorney general Gabrielle Upton and Woollahra mayor Toni Zeltzer.
A ramped up police presence has been deployed across the state for Anzac Day commemorations, with specialist units including the riot squad and PolAir assisting general duties officers.
"In addition, police from Local Area Commands across the state will be out in force at local and regional Anzac Day events to ensure the community can enjoy the day without disruption," according to NSW Police.
