EACH year, usually in August, the federal government provides Financial Assistance Grants (FAGs) to the nations councils. These grants are used to maintain local roads, bridges, parks and infrastructure as well as services to the young and community groups.

The 2014-15 budget saw FAGs frozen for the next three years, a move that will see more than $925 million in funding lost to local governments over the next four years.
So chalk another one up to the federal government.
