Essential Employees and Training held a cupcake competition in conjunction with National Youth Week to raise money for local youth organisations and awareness for young people with disabilities.
Essential Employees and Training regional manager Garry Field said young people with disabilities were invited to make six cupcakes, which would be judged for a special prize.
“We have people who have come from Goulburn, Mittagong, Ulladulla and locally to participate,” he said.
“There are at least four tables of cupcakes that will be judged by a special guest from Berry’s CWA, Shoalhaven Mayor Joanna Gash and Essential Employees and Training CEO Amanda Calwell-Smith.
“After the judging the cupcakes will go up for sale with all money raised going to a local youth centre.”
Mr Field said the idea came from a desire to bake a few cupcakes to celebrate National Youth Week.
“And look at how far it has come today. We hope to make this an annual event that will get bigger and better every year,” he said.
“One day we would love to be able to shut the main street of Nowra and line tables up the whole length of the road filled with cupcakes.”
Essential Employees and Training chief executive officer Amanda Calwell-Smith said the main point of the day was to showcase the talents of people with disabilities.
“We want to make people aware that people with disabilities are able to do anything.
“This cupcake competition seemed like a fun way to do that and the competition has been highly competitive.”
