Tuesday’s Centenary of Anzac meeting attracted a strong number of nominations, with a total of 85 acceptances.
Rated a soft seven after consistent rain over the last week, the track held up well throughout the eight race event.
The feature race of the day was the Albany WA Departure Benchmark 60 Handicap – heat of the Rising Star over 1200 metres.
The series is open to NSW and ACT apprentice riders and aims to promote vocational education and training across the state.
Stratifies, trained in Kembla Grange by Bede Murray, hung on well to win the feature race.
The five year old mare, ridden by apprentice jockey, Winona Costin, jumped well out of the barriers and led the 10 horse field from the outset.
Fast finishing Bring Me Love was beaten by a long neck for second, with Caldane a nose away third.
Turf club chief executive officer Lynn Locke was delighted with the success of the race meeting.
A string of cancelled meetings meant the club had not held a race day since December 31.
“All in all I’m very happy with the day,” Mrs Locke said.
“We have had lots of positive comments from the jockeys and trainers and a lot of support, so we're very happy with that.”
