Katungul is using a couple of innovative programs to boost its dental services with visiting dentists.
Both the “Closing the Gap” program of the Sydney dental hospital and not for profit “Filling the Gap” program have been utilised in recent months bringing dentists to Narooma from as far away as England and Ireland.
The latest “Filling the Gap” dentist is Ash Mahen who operates two private practices in Melbourne at Carram Downs and Tarneit.
“I wanted to give back to the community and the organisation allows me to do that,” Ash said.
“Dental care is important and everyone should have equal rights to access.”
She said what she had seen of Narooma had been lovely and she would move here if it was not so far from her businesses at Melbourne.
Also visiting Katungul was the chief executive of Filling the Gap, Michele Sharp who flew down from Sydney to see how it was all going.
Katungul actually currently didn’t have a permanent dentist, so without Filling the Gap it would not be able to offer dental services.
It was hoped that it could acquire a permanent dentist again, which meant the extra dentist from Filling the Gap would allow more outreach to communities such as the Wallaga Lake Koori Village.
