Monday: As we enter the final week of campaigning for the state election, candidates for the seat of Kiama have a hectic schedule ahead, ranging from funding announcements to pre-polling booth visits.
Kiama MP Gareth Ward will this morning join Kiama Mayor Brian Petschler and representatives from the Rotary Club of Kiama for a special presentation to the Kiama Youth Centre.
Mr Ward will then join Cr Petschler and Kiama Municipal Council’s waste management officer Josephine St John to present them with a cheque for $26,977 to support the ‘OK Organics Kiama – Home Composting workshops, which will provide education and tools for diverting food waste from landfill.
On Friday, Mr Ward visited Kiama Bowling Club to sign an MOU between Clubs NSW and the state government, to “highlight the Baird government's commitment to supporting the club industry”.
Last week, Health Minister Jillian Skinner announced a re-elected Baird government will give the green light to the major redevelopment of Shellharbour Hospital with a $251 million investment, if re-elected on March 28.
Mrs Skinner was joined at Shellharbour Hospital by Kiama MP Gareth Ward and Liberal candidate for Shellharbour Mark Jones to make the announcement while inspecting progress on the facility’s $6.7 million ambulatory care upgrade.
Meanwhile, Labor candidate Glenn Kolomeitz was at Berry Riding Club this morning to announce a multi-million dollar funding commitment for the local equestrian community, to assist them as well as build tourism for the region.
He will also visit Gerringong Museum this afternoon to announce a funding commitment for a new Gerringong Library, Museum and Community Facility.
Mr Kolomeitz also welcomed Labor’s announcement of funding support for local libraries.
Labor has announced that it will create a new $50 million Public Library Infrastructure Fund to help libraries upgrade their facilities or purchase new equipment and; in its first term, it will double the subsidies for public libraries, adding $23.3 million over four years.
