The NSW Rural Fire Service has scheduled hazard reduction burns at Deans Gap Road, Yerriyong on Saturday and Mt Scanzi Road, Kangaroo Valley, and Scott Street, Shoalhaven Heads on Sunday.
The NPWS hopes to conduct burns at Huskisson and Erowal Bay.
If conditions allow burns will also take place in Hyams Beach.
NSW RFS Superintendent Mark Williams said the controlled burn is due to start about 9am and finish by late afternoon each day.
“Hazard reduction plays a vital role in helping to reduce the intensity of bush fires,” Supt. Williams said.
“This controlled burn will help protect a substantial amount properties and assets as well as assist our firefighters to control any future bushfires in the area.
He said it was important to take advantage of suitable weather conditions for burning.
“Each year only a small window of opportunity exists where weather conditions are conducive to controlled burns,” Supt Williams said.
Residents are advised to take appropriate precautions, such as keeping doors and windows closed, removing washing from clothes lines and making sure pets are in a protected area.
Motorists in the area should slow down and take care if driving through smoke, keep windows up, switch the car air-conditioner to recirculated mode and turn headlights on.
